RELATIONAL PSYCHOTHERAPY
Relational psychotherapy is a modern model of psychotherapy based on the therapeutic quality of human relationships. Such a relationship is the one that develops between the therapist and the patient during the process of psychotherapy.
Relational psychotherapy is based on modern psychodynamic theories that emphasize the impact of primary relationships with our caregivers on the formation of our personality. Based on these early relationships we continue as adults to often relate in ways that do not help us grow to our full potential. The result is the development of various forms of psychopathology, such as long-term anxiety and depression.
The relational psychotherapist through empathy and acceptance towards the client helps him/her to develop new, more functional and more authentic ways of living and relating to his/her fellow human beings.
